Alternate power adapter for bolt

Slow download speed from DVR

Hi all,

So, I have Bolt 1TB connected to Moca from FIOS Quantum GW with default settings. It's Moca 2.0, PHY rate 600/400 or smth like this, no errors on the interface in the stats.

And I have a mobile phone connected to 5G Wifi from that Fios GW. about 600Mb/s link speed. It's working just fine, I get full internet speed 100/100Mbits/sec from public internet with no problems. The problem is when I try to download a recorded TV show from TiVo, it's super slow. The download rate is about 5Mbits/per seconds, it it takes 20+ minutes to download 1.1Gb show.

Any ideas what to check here? I can certainly try and connect Tivo via ethernet to the router, in addition to MoCa network for the TV part. But I'd like to figure out what's wrong with existing connection.

I'm in the process of getting my bolt replaced.. When I get the new unit is it possible to transfer all of the existing settings, shows, guide list, etc. over??

Is there an easy way or am I basically just SOL?

Bolt with HDMI splitter?

Potential Bolt buyer here (long-time TiVo user, though). I just purchased a new 4K TV and will be using my existing Roamio for the time being to feed the cable signal via HDMI to my Onkyo A/V receiver, which will be upscaling everything to 4K.

My question about the Bolt is: can I use an HDMI splitter to send one HDMI feed to the TV and another to the A/V receiver so I can still receive the highest quality DTS and Dolby audio signals?

Thanks for your help. . .

Added channels not getting guide data?

WUDZ "To be announced"

I live in Indianapolis. A few days ago I went messing with our Western facing antenna to diagnose some signal issues with one of our local channels. After re-scanning channels the Bolt came back with 6 more channels and one of them, WUDZ which is in Terre Haute (80 miles away!!) came online.

But even days later the TV guide listing on the Bolt still shows "To be announced" instead of any channel data. I thought the Bolt was getting guide data from the TV signal but I guess not. Any thoughts on how to activate guide data for this channel?

Bolt noisy fan - options?

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my TiVo Premiere XL4 to the TiVo Bolt. I enjoy everything about the a bolt except the loud noise coming from the fan. I can be all the way across the living room and still hear the fan going. I must say it is one of the loudest piece of equipment I've ever had.

I see that other users in the forum are reporting the same issue.

I'm wondering whether mine is excessively loud and whether I should ask for a replacement unit. Otherwise, could anyone comment on the fan noise for the Roamio? I may choose to replace the Bolt with the Roamio instead until the Bolt Pro, or something else comes along.

Thank you in advance. :)

Compatible hard drive list for Bolt...

Hello everyone. I just bought a 500 GB Tivo Bolt 3 days ago with the idea of upgrading the hard drive to something bigger. I read in a post somewhere on this site I believe that mentioned the Seagate STDR2000100 external USB drive (which is 2 TB) being compatible. So I went out and bought it, opened up the USB3 case and extracted the drive in it. When I tried to replace the factory drive in my TIvo Bolt with it I ended up getting the blinking 4 lights! I reformatted it on my Linux box several different ways, tried several times with the same result - 4 blinking lights!

So I ended up pulling the 3.5" 3 GB Western Digital (Green) drive that I had in my Tivo Roamio (the Roamio died 4 days ago because of a lighting strike - that is why I bought the Bolt in the first place). I ran a SATA cable external from the Bolt to this drive and used an external power supply to this drive and it works. This drive is about 2 years old now and I want to buy a new drive but have no direction at this point on what to get.

I have looked in these forums and have done numerous internet searches and cannot find a guaranteed model that is a ~2-3 GB in size that works for 100% sure. It seems like the latest firmware update that exists on my machine and everyone else's broke hard drive upgrades. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am OK in using an external 3.5" drive with a separate power supply if needed. I just want verification on what drive works.

Besides the Toshiba 3.0TB MQ03ABB300 drive (BTW - is this Toshiba drive still a blessed solution after the latest firmware version that is out there? The video I saw on Youtube is from 2015) are there any other tested hard drive replacements that will work?

I am open to any suggestions. If there are proven hard drive replacement solutions that work 100% maybe we should start a thread that lists them.

Thanks for your time. This is my fist post so please go easy on me :)

Thanks much.

Bolt w/ LG & Onkyo

Hi, I don't know if others have run into my same situation but I'll give it a shot. I have my Bolt connected to an Onkyo AVR and that's also connected to an LG OLED TV. Every time I turn on the Watch TV activity on my Harmony 700, something (don't know if it's the TV or Onkyo) is switching the input on the Onkyo to TV or Roku and not CBL/SAT so the TV thinks there's no input coming through. I believe I read that the TV has to turn on first for the HDMI handshake to occur but as we all know, the TiVo is always on. I've tried turning off SimpleLink on the LG and CEC on the Onkyo but this doesn't seem to help. Also, when you turn them off then you stop getting DD 5.1 on the built-in TV apps. This also seems to have gotten worse when I changed the Video settings on the Bolt to 2160 Auto. Has anyone been able to solve this problem as I've tried so many different combinations of settings that I've now lost track. Thanks!

Anyone try an SSD drive in a Bolt? Faster performance? Early failure from constant writes? Less heat?

Amazon app crashing

The last couple of times I've tried to watch an Amazon movie, I've gotten a low bandwidth message and whether I click yes or no, the screen blanks and the only way I can get the TiVo to work is by power cycling. Bandwidth is fine, other apps streaming just fine. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

SNR Levels

After working fine for five weeks, my Bolt stopped receiving any channels.

I tried everything, including running a new coax line, getting a new CableCard, etc.

Still no luck.

TiVo said my SNR levels are too low. QAM 64 they are between 9-15, and for QAM 256 they are about 19-22. At least according to what Bolt diagnostics say.

I had a Verizon technician come over and check everything. According to them, everything is fine. They put in a Verizon box and the channels came in fine. They showed me the SNR as per VZ box reading, and they were 40-41.

What do I do? My Bolt is beyond the return period on Best Buy. Is it a bad Bolt? Do I scrap Tivo altogether and go with Verizon boxes?

Bolt OOH iPhone w/ HDMI

On my first trip since Bolt got OOH streaming and wanted to share this info. Tried airplay through an AppleTV in my hotel room, quality wasn't that great. But I remembered I had an Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter, so I tried that. Fantastic! I highly recommend one for Bolt owning travelers.

Just plug the power and HDMI to the adapter, HDMI to TV, then last plug the lightning into the iPhone. Then launch TiVo app. Video on hotel TV really looks good that way.

Note that the HDMI adapter seemed to be marketed by Apple for the iPad. But I can confirm it works on iPhone, too. Plus, using an iPad, you don't get full screen HDMI due to the aspect ratio on the iPad display. Using an iPhone with the adapter gives you full screen HD.

Plus the adapter is a whole lot smaller to take on trips than an AppleTV is...

Bolt bit the dust

Was watching TV, everything got pixelated and the screen went black. Green and red lights were lit but nothing was working.

So I unplugged it, waited 15 seconds or so and plugged it again like I had done before. This time nothing. When I plug it, it does a quick red light flash (less than a second) and that is it.

Support quickly decided that it was dead and sent me a "renewed" one which I am OK with since this one was 6 months. Hopefully pairing the card will be a lot less painful this time around.

Service plan cost

I just bought a TiVo Bolt after 10 years with satellite. I haven't activated yet, and my eyes popped out a bit with the $549 all-in service cost. Is this the same price that everyone gets, or are there ways to get a better deal (i.e. I remember there used to be multi-unit discounts - I have an ancient TiVo with Lifetime that I could fire up and reactivate if that would let me save money)?

I had always bought lifetime before, but at that price, I'm guessing I would stick with an annual subscription.

Bolt Frame Rate

Is there a way to output at 24fps instead of 60fps for 1080p? The menu won't allow me to select 1080p pass-through without also selecting 1080p 60fps, and the TiVo automatically uses the 60fps setting when I select 1080p (using the up arrow on the remote). My family is having a hard time adjusting to 60fps, and I can't seem to get it to output 24fps. Or is my only real option 1080i?

Press D for HD

Noticed recently that the "Press D to watch in HD" option doesn't show when selecting the non HD version of certain channels. Then I just have to navigate to the HD version via Guide.

Anyone else notice this. Maybe it's more a function of the cable provider signal? On Comcast/Xfinity.

Thanks

Tivo Bolt Picture quality degraded?

Hello,

First time Tivo user here. Just switched from Directv to Verizon Fios and refused to use their boxes. I already had Fios internet so when the cable card arrived, I put the Fios main line into the Directv splitter that was already in the basement. No success. Bought a new splitter from the local electronics store and everything works. The splitter does NOT say anything about being Moca certified but says 5-3GH. Now the router, Bolt, and Mini work.

The problem I am having is that there is a noticeably "softer" picture on my 4k OLED tv. The quality just isn't nearly as good as I'm used to. I bring up the splitter because I've seen in other posts where that could be the issue? I've tried playing with the output settings (changed from automatic to everything 720p and up). Doesn't make a difference.

I am definitely watching HD channels. Have the best 4k HDMI cable that monoprice sells. All Coax cables and connections are tight.

I checked the signal coming in and it's staying right around 92%.

Can anyone offer some advice? I also read people having issues about the TV upscaling and the Bolt upscaling together? I'll try any advice given and report back.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Recorded TV show skipping

We are seeing record tv show skipping on playback. It appears to be just one channel ABC. We are on Charter Cable card. Watching live it never skips. Any thoughts or direction from the group? We are running a Tivo Bolt with Charter cable card with a Mini. We also have the Tivo sggestion thing running which seems to be constantly recording which I don't know if that would have an impact.
